A study conducted by Uppsala University in collaboration with Pharmacolog states that DrugLog® with high accuracy can detect if new or old blood is present in spinal fluid.
Researchers at Uppsala University, led by Professor Anders Larson at the Department of Clinical Chemistry, have with the help of staff from Pharmacolog carried out a study that shows that DrugLog® can detect the presence of hemoglobin or bilirubin from red blood cells in spinal fluid. In case of suspected stroke or cerebral hemorrhage, such an analysis may be performed. If any of these substances can be detected, it most likely means that the patient has suffered from some form of bleeding in the brain. The study will be published this November in the journal Clinical Laboratory.
Mats Högberg, CEO at Pharmacolog comments: “The idea of being able to detect different substances in spinal fluid is very interesting. Pure Liquor is very similar in structure to saline and our technology is excellent at detecting the presence of chemical or biological molecules in a stable reference liquid. We will continue our collaboration with Uppsala University to see if this can lead to further interesting product applications in the future.”
